Restore power and proper valve operation on your Briggs & Stratton V-Twin engine with this complete Cylinder Head #2 repair kit. This kit is built around the Briggs & Stratton 84001919 Cylinder Head, for compatible Briggs & Stratton 40, 44, and 49 Series V-Twin engines.

Important: This is Cylinder Head #2, which is the lower-positioned cylinder head on the engine. Please verify which cylinder head you need before ordering.

This kit is intended for repairing engines with a shifted exhaust valve guide, a common cylinder-head failure that can cause:

• Popping or backfiring through the intake

84001919-KIT is a repair kit assembled by Small Engines Rx. The Briggs & Stratton 84001919 cylinder head already includes the required cylinder-head components and gaskets listed below.

We add two additional OEM Briggs & Stratton parts to our kit:

• (1) Aluminum Intake Push Rod – 690982
• (1) Steel Exhaust Push Rod – 597785

We include these because the push rods are often bent or damaged when the original cylinder head experiences a valve guide failure. Including both replacement push rods gives you the parts commonly needed to complete the repair without discovering during disassembly that additional parts need to be ordered.

What Causes the Failure?

A shifted exhaust valve guide can prevent the exhaust valve from operating correctly, resulting in a misfire, popping through the intake, and major loss of power.

Excessive cylinder-head temperature can contribute to this failure. Grass, dirt, and debris commonly accumulate underneath the engine cover and between the cylinder cooling fins, restricting airflow around the cylinder heads.

When replacing the cylinder head, we strongly recommend removing the engine cover and thoroughly cleaning the cooling fins and surrounding areas before returning the engine to service.
