How to Find Your Engine Model Number

Briggs & Stratton

Most Briggs engines use a 3-part ID: Model / Type / Code.

  1. Look on the blower housing (shroud) above the spark plug area.
  2. Check the valve cover or a label near the muffler/starter.
  3. Clean and re-check with a flashlight if needed.
MODEL: 31A507   TYPE: 0133   CODE: G1

Kohler

Kohler commonly uses a Model + Spec (and often a serial).

  1. Look for a label on the blower housing.
  2. Check near the valve cover or side of the block.
MODEL: CV740   SPEC: 0037   SERIAL: 4512345678

Kawasaki

Kawasaki typically uses a Model + Spec.

  1. Sticker on the engine shroud.
  2. Sometimes near the valve cover area.
MODEL: FR691V   SPEC: AS04

Honda

Honda engines often show a Model + Type + Serial.

  1. Label near the fuel tank or starter.
  2. Stamped on the block near the base (varies).
MODEL: GCV160   TYPE: LA0   SERIAL: 1234567

Tecumseh

Often a Model + Spec on the shroud tag (older tags may be worn).

MODEL: HM80   SPEC: 155123E

Predator (Harbor Freight)

Use the item number and any model/serial shown on the sticker.

DISPLACEMENT: 212cc   ITEM: 69730   SERIAL: 123456789

Generac

Look for a model + serial tag on the shroud or near the starter.

MODEL: 0J5862   SERIAL: 1234567

Can’t find your engine model number?

  1. Clean the area with degreaser and re-check with a flashlight.
  2. Check multiple spots: shroud, valve cover, muffler/starter area.
  3. If missing/unreadable, take a wide engine photo + close-up and send it to us.
