Kohler Command Single-Cylinder Models Requiring Cylinder Head Removal

The following engine families require the cylinder head to be removed in order to replace the valve lifters: CV11, CV12.5, CV13, CV14, CV460, and CV461

A new head gasket kit is required for reassembly. Part number 12 041 08-S

Kohler Command Single-Cylinder Models with Valve Cover Access

The following engine families allow the valve lifters to be replaced by removing only the valve cover: CV15, CV16, CV490, CV491, and CV492

These engines use RTV silicone sealant on the valve cover and do not require cylinder head removal for valve lifter replacement.

Kohler Command V-Twin Models

For Kohler Command V-Twin engines, the valve lifters can be serviced by removing the valve cover.
